A woman in her 40s has been sentenced to prison for spitting on a police officer and assaulting other participants during a protest at the Jamsil polling station in Olympic Park.

Judge Lee Ji-min of the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced Kim, 45, to 10 months in prison on charges including obstruction of official duties on October 27.

The judge explained, "She showed a disregard for law enforcement by using profanity and insults against police officers, demonstrating a weak sense of legal compliance and a risk of reoffending. Most victims have not forgiven her, and they are requesting severe punishment."

Kim is accused of repeatedly provoking and assaulting other participants during the protest that took place from June 22 to 23. She allegedly hurled insults and assaulted both participants and police officers who tried to intervene.

While patrolling, she reportedly asked a police officer, "Aren't you a Chinese police officer?" and, when stopped from filming, spat on the officer's face twice.

During a pre-arrest hearing on June 25, Kim claimed, "Everything is unfair," but later acknowledged her actions and submitted a letter of remorse after the trial began.

The prosecution had sought a two-year sentence for Kim during the first hearing on September 8.
