Global investment in AI data centers is expected to reach about $2.9 trillion between 2025 and 2028, with roughly $1.5 trillion likely to require external funding. Five major hyperscalers issued about $230 billion in corporate bonds in the first nine months of 2026, more than double their issuance for all of last year.

Demand for Korean memory chips remains strong, with SK hynix saying long-term agreements cover more than half of its 2027 and 2028 production capacity and customer requests for HBM exceed twice its current supply capacity. The key risk for Korea is therefore not an immediate collapse in AI demand, but whether financing strains eventually force data-center operators to cut capital expenditure and chip orders.
