On October 29, as temperatures in many areas of Gangwon Province dropped below freezing, the first snowfall of the autumn season was observed at high altitudes in Seoraksan National Park, including Daecheongbong Peak.

According to the Seoraksan National Park Office, the snowfall began around 11:40 a.m. However, no accumulation measurements were recorded by 12:40 p.m. after the snow clouds passed.

The lowest temperature recorded near the Jungcheong Shelter in Seoraksan reached minus 2.5 degrees Celsius. This year's first snowfall in Seoraksan occurred nine days later than last year and about ten days later than in the year before.

The Seoraksan National Park authorities urged visitors hiking during this late autumn season to exercise extra caution to prevent safety accidents. They explained that the significant temperature fluctuations in autumn can lead to severe fatigue and pose a high risk of serious accidents.

Choi Seung-cheol, head of the Disaster Safety Division at Seoraksan National Park, stated, "Hiking during autumn with large temperature differences can lead to hypothermia and exhaustion, so special care is needed. It is essential to thoroughly prepare warm clothing, gloves, hats, emergency food, first aid supplies, lanterns, and backup batteries."

He also added, "Visitors should check the designated hiking times and use regular trails, and it is recommended to hike in groups of two or more."

Meanwhile, on the same morning, Seoul recorded its first frost of the autumn season.
