An elementary school student has reportedly avoided punishment after throwing a scooter from a high-rise apartment, damaging a vehicle.

According to the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, the investigation into the case involving an 8-year-old boy, referred to as A, was concluded on October 16.

On June 13, A allegedly threw a scooter from the 10th floor of an apartment building in Usan-dong, Gwangsan District, Gwangju, causing damage to a car parked on the first floor.

Fortunately, there were no injuries as no one was passing by at the time. However, the police launched an inquiry following a report from the vehicle's owner.

Surveillance footage captured A inspecting the damaged vehicle after the scooter fell, and police were able to identify him through his name written on the scooter.

During questioning, A claimed he threw the scooter out of curiosity.

Under current law, individuals under the age of 14 cannot be criminally prosecuted, meaning A will not face criminal charges. Those aged 10 to 14 are classified as juvenile offenders and may receive protective measures under juvenile law, but children under 10 are exempt from such measures.

A police official stated, "While we cannot impose criminal penalties, there remains the issue of civil liability for the vehicle damage. I understand that A's parents and the vehicle owner are currently discussing compensation."
