SEOUL, October 30 (AJP) - President Lee Jae Myung spoke by phone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Cheong Wa Dae said on Friday.

During their phone call the previous day, which Saudi Arabia requested, the two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation between their countries despite the prolonged conflict in the Middle East, according to a written press briefing by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung.

Lee offered sympathy for the lives lost and the damage caused by the monthslong conflict, while extending support to the Saudi people. He expressed hope that the situation would be resolved soon so that peace and stability could be restored to the region.

Lee also thanked Saudi Arabia for its continued cooperation, particularly for prioritizing crude oil supplies to South Korea amid disruptions caused by the conflict.

The two leaders pledged to expand cooperation in various areas as "future-oriented strategic partners," focusing on projects that would benefit both countries.

Lee and Mohammed also agreed to meet in person at a mutually convenient time to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral ties, according to Kang.

Their phone conversation comes as South Korea seeks to maintain close ties with Saudi Arabia, a key energy supplier, amid growing concerns over regional stability and energy security.
