Viva Republica, the operator of Toss, is set to enter the Japanese financial market through the acquisition of a local securities firm.

According to the Nikkei newspaper on October 30, Viva Republica plans to acquire 100% of CHEER Securities, a subsidiary of Tokai Tokyo Financial Group, through its overseas subsidiary based in Singapore. The acquisition amount is reported to be approximately 4 billion yen (340 million won).

Tokai Tokyo Financial Group is expected to resolve the sale at its board meeting today, and Viva Republica aims to complete the acquisition within the 2026 fiscal year (April 2026 to March 2027). However, the deal is not finalized yet, as it still requires approval from relevant authorities and the fulfillment of preconditions.

CHEER Securities, which registered as a securities firm in November 2021, specializes in mobile trading and investment trust services. Following the acquisition, Viva Republica plans to operate CHEER Securities in accordance with Japanese laws and regulations governing securities firms, leveraging its qualification as a Type 1 Financial Instruments Business Operator.

The Nikkei anticipates that, amid growing demand for stock investments among Japan's younger population, Viva Republica will leverage its experience in mobile financial services to attract new customers.

A Toss representative stated, "We decided to acquire CHEER Securities because we believe its focus on providing accessible services for novice investors aligns with our business objectives. Currently, we are concentrating on completing the acquisition and ensuring stable operations, as there are still preconditions such as regulatory approvals to fulfill."
