The transportation network plan for the Honam Semiconductor National Industrial Complex, which will host Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, has been completed.

According to Gwangju City on November 2, the plan includes the construction of a cross-shaped main road connecting the Gwangju military airport site with major highways.

This initiative responds to requests from semiconductor companies for improved access between the industrial complex and highways, national roads, and local roads.

Initially, a new access road will be constructed to directly connect the complex with the Gwangju-Kangjin Expressway, which is set to open in December.

This expressway spans 51.1 kilometers, linking Byeokjin-dong in Gwangju's Seo-gu with Seongjeon-myeon in Gangjin-gun. Once the access road is built, it will facilitate easier travel to major arterial roads such as the Gwangju Second Ring Road and Honam Expressway, enhancing connectivity to the southwestern region of Jeonnam.

Additionally, the transportation network toward Naju will be strengthened.

A new road will be established from the south of the complex to connect with Local Road 49, linking the West Coast Expressway, Muan-Gwangju Expressway, and Honam Expressway. This will allow freight trucks from the semiconductor complex to bypass downtown Gwangju and head directly to the west coast and the capital region.

To the west, existing roads will be expanded.

The road from Woejeondong to Mujin-ro, currently being constructed as a four-lane road, will be connected to the complex, with plans to later expand it to eight lanes.

This road connects to national roads and expressways leading from Gwangju Airport to Donggok in Naju.

To the north, the existing eight-lane Songjeong-daero will be utilized without constructing a new road.

This plan aims to connect the Sangmu District, Gwangju Songjeong Station, and the semiconductor complex, facilitating easier commuting for workers and access to downtown Gwangju.

The access roads to the complex will be integrated with Gwangju City's planned metropolitan expressway network project.

The project aims to establish a highway network spanning 372.2 kilometers across three regions: Gwangju, the western region, and the eastern region, with nine routes planned.

In the Gwangju region, plans include the expansion of the Honam Expressway and the construction of the Gwangju Outer Ring Expressway, while the western region will see the construction of expressways connecting Yeongam-Gwangju, Jindo-Yeongam, Gangjin-Gwangju, and Gangjin-Wando.

In the eastern region, expressways connecting Goheung-Gwangju and Yeosu-Suncheon are planned.

Once these metropolitan road networks are established, they will connect the semiconductor complex with major industrial hubs, ports, and airports in the southwestern and eastern regions, creating significant synergy.

However, completing the necessary administrative procedures and securing funding for construction remain challenges.
