A middle school student saved his father’s life using CPR techniques he learned at school after his father collapsed at home.

According to the Jeonbuk Fire Department, a man in his 40s suddenly collapsed in an apartment in Jeonju's Deokjin District at 7:51 p.m. on October 18. His son, identified as B, called emergency services, stating, “Dad is having trouble breathing,” but was panicked and unable to provide the address.

The fire department contacted A's wife to confirm the address and dispatched an ambulance, but in the meantime, A went into cardiac arrest.

At that moment, B recalled the fire safety training he had received at school. He immediately began performing CPR on his father, pressing on A's chest.

The 119 emergency call center also initiated a video call with B to help him maintain a steady rhythm while performing CPR. The operator provided real-time guidance with moving images and videos until the ambulance arrived.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene just seven minutes later, at 7:58 p.m., and immediately began advanced life support, including defibrillation, airway management, and medication administration.

Thanks to the efforts of his son and the firefighters, A's heart began to beat again, and he was quickly transported to Jeonbuk National University Hospital for treatment.

The fire department credited B's quick initial response, the prompt location confirmation by the 119 operator, and the guidance from the emergency management center for saving A's life.

Jin Hyung-min, head of the Jeonbuk Fire Department, stated, “The courage of the son who applied CPR learned at school in a real situation, along with the swift and systematic response of 119, resulted in this precious outcome,” emphasizing the importance of immediate CPR by the first responder in cases of cardiac arrest.
