SEOUL, November 5 (AJP) — Bank of Korea Governor Shin Hyun-song will travel to Basel, Switzerland, on Friday for his third BIS governors' meeting since taking office in April, the central bank said Thursday.
Shin will attend meetings hosted by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) before returning to South Korea on November 11, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).
The meetings include the Global Economy Meeting, the Meeting of Governors from Major Emerging Market Economies and the Meeting of Governors, where central bank chiefs will discuss recent global economic and financial-market developments.
Shin will also attend the BIS Board of Directors and the Economic Consultative Committee as a board member.
The visit marks another return to the institution where Shin spent nearly 12 years before taking office as BOK governor.
He served as BIS economic adviser from 2014 to 2026, conducting research on monetary policy, international finance and financial stability.
Shin was elected to the BIS Board in May for a three-year term, extending South Korea's representation on the governing body for a third consecutive term since 2019.
He previously attended BIS governors' meetings in May and September, and also visited Basel for the institution's Annual General Meeting in June.
The latest meetings come as central banks assess global financial-market volatility, inflation pressures and the implications of rapid technological developments for financial stability.
