South Korean singer CL has apologized for incorporating a verse from Quran, the religious text of Islam, in performances at her North American tour concerts that infuriated Muslim fans.
CL came under fire over her solo track "MTBD" which cited Quran verses at her tour concerts in Seattle and Vancouver on October 31 and November 1. Muslim fans have expressed anger by using hashtags "cl_stop_using_our_quran" on the singer's Instagram and asked CL to remove the controversial portion.
"To anyone I have offended I sincerely apologize for my mistake," the 25-year old posted an English apology on her Twitter on Monday. "What happened was my engineer sent the old version of MTBD for this tour. I take my responsibility for not realizing this sooner. My intention was never to use this version."
The 2NE1 member told her engineer to delete the old version forever. The new version will be performed at upcoming concerts in Chicago and Toronto. Muslims insist the Quran should not be used for entertainment purposes of any form.
MTBD from 2NE1's 2014 album sparked anger from Muslims, prompting YG Entertainment to drop the Quran verses. CL made her official solo debut in the United States in August. Her single album entered Billboard's Hot 100 chart for the first time as a South Korean female artist.
