SEOUL -- CJ CGV, a cinema franchise of South Korea's food and entertainment conglomerate CJ, signed a deal with the world's second-largest cinema chain to open more theaters abroad for its 270-degree "ScreenX" cinema platform.
CJ's ScreenX platform consists of three silver screens placed side by side to provide a 270-degree viewing angle. The special screen platform can also play normal films when they are converted through post-processing.
CGV said in a statement on Thursday that it aims to open 100 more ScreenX theaters in countries such as the United States, Britain, Israel and European countries. Cineworld is a London-based cinema chain which operates more than 9,500 screens. CGV currently operates 142 ScreenX theaters worldwide.
"We will attract moviegoers by introducing Screen X in many countries," a CGV official was quoted as saying. CGV has pushed the expansion of ScreenX since it was first introduced in 2012.
