SEOUL -- Seungri, a scandal-stricken BIGBANG member, will enlist this month amid an ongoing police investigation that began last month to see whether he has been implicated in alleged wrongdoings such as drug circulation and sexual service.
YG Entertainment said Friday in a statement that Seungri decided to join the army boot camp on March 25 for his mandatory military service. He had applied for a conscripted policeman, but he changed his mind to serve as an army soldier.
Seungri was questioned by police on February 27 for more than eight hours. Investigators collected his hair and urine samples for drug testing.
Last month, a South Korean online media outlet reported that the singer is suspected of having been involved in escort services for foreign investors in Yuri Holdings in late 2015. The company was co-founded by Seungri for investment in restaurant and entertainment businesses.
The report came on the heels of an investigation into alleged drug use, sexual assault and violence at Burning Sun, a music and dance club associated with Seungri. The club caught public attention in January when a 28-year-old man claimed that he was beaten by Burning Sun employees. Seungri apologized and resigned from the club's management.
