Hyundai Wia said it has started the mass production of an electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD) system for rear-wheel steering. The new component was used for GV80, a luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) unveiled by Hyundai this month.
The component controls the torque distribution of left and right wheels to help vehicles travel more stably through corners and slippery roads. When a vehicle falls into a swamp, it focuses power on the other wheel. When turning a corner at high speed, power is allocated to the left and right wheels to enable stable driving.
Hyundai Wia said that it has increased the speed of response by using hydraulic actuators that can recognize fine pressure changes occurring on the vehicle and distribute the optimum driving power within 0.25 seconds.
With the development of e-LSD for rear-wheel steering, the company is capable of providing a system for four-wheel drive components that can respond to all vehicles.
