KT and Hyundai Elevator will link self-driving robots with elevators and develop an AI-based solution that would control elevators through voice interface or mobile applications, as well as a personalized service based on facial recognition technology and big data to control lighting or provide music and media content by analyzing real-time passenger status.
Various IT technology applications will be studied for data analysis to increase operational efficiency. The partnership between KT and Hyundai Elevator, a leading elevator maker in South Korea, began in 2019 when they agreed to develop connected elevators using information and communication technology to enhance passenger conveniences.
KT forged a partnership with Shinsegae Chosun Hotel, a hotel franchise of Shinsegae Group, in December 2020 to provide an automated robot butler service. Using a smartphone app, customers can pick up a room service delivered by serving robots. The service will be applied to hospitals and other areas.
"We are promoting the development of vertical e-mobility products and services that provide efficiency, convenience and safety to customers through the convergence of elevators and IT technology," Hyundai Elevator CEO Song Seung-bong said in a statement. In 2020, Hyundai Elevator joined hands with Woowa Brother, the operator of South Korea's top food delivery service app "Baedal Minjok" to commercialize a system linking elevators and robots.
