KT partners with hotel service reservation operator Yanolja to release AI-based room management solution

SEOUL -- South Korea's top telecom company KT has partnered with Yanolja Cloud, the cloud solution wing of the online accommodation reservation service operator Yanolja, to release an artificial intelligence-based unmanned hotel room management solution.
 
KT said in a statement on December 20 that Mercury, a wireless communication infrastructure developer, and Y FLUX, a smart hotel management solution company, were also involved in the project to establish a smart room management solution at H1 Hotel in the southern city of Gwangju.
 
Through the smart solution, hotel workers can check the availability and status of rooms using a smartphone room management system. Internet of things (IoT) sensors will detect the body heat of customers to check and see if a room is vacant or occupied. Customers can check in and out using an unmanned kiosk and order room services using KT's voice assistant speakers.  
 
The solution is part of KT's digital transformation project to turn traditional work-based businesses into new businesses based on technology to reduce costs and increase work efficiency. "Through the partnership with Yanolja Cloud and Mercury, we are now able to provide a differentiated service," KT's digital transformation business center head Kim Young-sik was quoted as saying.
 
KT has commercialized an AI-based concierge robot at a hotel in central Seoul in 2019. The 5G-connected robot can navigate around a hotel to cover around 100 rooms and deliver room service. The tower-shaped robot can move up and down floors by communicating with elevators.
