South Korea, which had a renewable energy dependency rate of 4.8 percent in 2020, is trying to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050. During the last few years, Orion has carried out various projects to protect the environment. In 2017, the company adopted eco-friendly packaging materials for its snack products. Solar power generators were installed on the rooftop of Orion's factory in Vietnam.
Orion said in a statement on January 13 that the integrated carbon emission management system was launched to effectively manage the emission of greenhouse gases. The system can be used in Orion's overseas plants including China, Vietnam and Russia. To allow foreign employees access and analyze data, the system is operated in five languages -- Korean, English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Russian.
The data will be used to determine the quantity of annual carbon emissions and to carry out greenhouse gas reduction activities. As part of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) management, the results of the eco-friendly activities will be disclosed through the company's official website. ESG is a trendy corporate operation method that focuses on the use of green energy as well as reducing carbon emissions.
