AI and big data are widely used in the logistics sector to optimize the operation of facilities, transports, and manpower. AI-based platforms can predict service demands and also manage delivery trucks so that they can deliver parcels through the most efficient routes and schedules. By doing so, the trucks will save fuel and emit fewer greenhouse gases during their delivery runs, compared to non-optimized runs.
KT's AI-based mobility service division revealed the "Logistics Intelligence Suite for Freight Optimization (LIS'FO)," an AI-based logistics platform, in November 2022. The platform studies operation data to offer truck drivers better-optimized routes and help business operators improve their competitiveness.
The telecom company said that it will provide LIS'FO to 70 Lotte Mart stores across the country. The mega-mart store franchise operated by Lotte On would be able to reduce the time take to designate delivery areas for deliverymen to about three minutes. Currently, the deployment process is done manually taking about 30 minutes. The total distance traveled and the amount of greenhouse emission by trucks will be reduced by up to 22 percent, KT analyzed.
"Through the adoption of KT's logistics platform, we hope to offer upgraded delivery service by improving the working environment and reducing the time taken for a delivery," Lotte On's mega-mart division head Par Se-ho said in a statement on February 1.
