Korea Western Power signed an agreement with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) to start the construction in November 2023 in Oman's northeastern region called "Manah." The South Korean company will be in charge of the operation and management of the facility, which is expected to be built by March 2025. OPWP will guarantee the purchase of electricity to be produced at the facility for 20 years.
South Korean companies are striving to develop various solar energy solutions. In April 2023, Seoul announced that the city would subsidize up to 80 percent of the installation costs for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs) through a one billion won project. BIPVs are used to integrate solar cells into the walls of a building.
Earlier this month, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions, the solar power wing of South Korea's HD Hyundai, was selected by South Korea's industry ministry to lead the mass production project for an ultra-high-efficiency large-surface solar power generation module. By 2026, the solar energy solution provider aims to develop hetero-junction technology and mass-produce products that can significantly reduce the amount of energy loss when converting sunlight into electrical energy.
