The system, developed by the car parts maker, will be employed to inspect Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) products. It detects defects by analyzing minute sounds generated during operation and interpreting sound wave patterns using AI algorithms.
"This initiative marks a pioneering example of process innovation not only in the automotive sector but across the global manufacturing industry," said Choi Nak-hyun, vice president of Hyundai Mobis' digital transformation division. "We will continue introducing differentiated AI-based technologies for production, R&D and improvements in work environments."
Hyundai Mobis plans to expand the acoustic AI system to other component production processes where noise is inevitable during operations, such as braking systems. The system can inspect one product per second, providing a significant advantage in efficiently managing high volumes.
