The victory brought South Korea’s overall gold medal count to eight at the Games.
Yang and Jedrzejewski tied 37-37 after 10 series of shots at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre. The final was a tense affair, with the two shooters trading blows throughout. Yang held a three-point lead after the first three series but saw her advantage dwindle as the competition progressed.
The final series ended in another tie, setting up the shoot-off. Jedrzejewski missed her first three shots, while Yang clinched the gold with a hit on her fourth.
The 21-year-old Yang is the third South Korean to medal in the event, following Kim Jang-mi’s gold in 2012 and Kim Min-jung’s silver in 2021.
“I’m happy to raise the South Korean flag to the highest position,” Yang said. “I will try hard to maintain this position and not come down.”
South Korea’s shooting team has enjoyed a strong showing at the Paris Olympics, with three gold and two silver medals so far. The country has matched its record for most medals at a single Games, previously achieved in 2012.
