SEOUL, September 19 (AJP) - Samsung SDI is presenting a range of next-generation battery solutions for electric commercial vehicles at the IAA Transportation 2024 trade show this week.

At the world’s largest trade show for commercial vehicles, held from Tuesday to Sunday in Hannover, Germany, the Korean battery maker is showcasing its latest LFP+ (lithium iron phosphate) battery, which boasts 10 percent higher energy density than its predecessor and can charge to 80 percent capacity in just 20 minutes.

Samsung SDI said the battery's extended lifespan allows for over 1,400 round trips between Hanover and Frankfurt.

The firm also displayed its all-solid-state battery (ASB) and 46-phi cylindrical batteries at the event. The ASB, featuring proprietary anode-less technology, is slated for mass production in 2027, while the 46-phi cylindrical batteries for micro-mobility applications are expected to launch early next year.

According to market researcher SNE Research, the global market for electric commercial vehicle batteries is projected to grow from 47 GWh in 2024 to 177 GWh by 2030, with an annual growth rate of about 25 percent.

"Samsung SDI has always strived to lead the electric vehicle market based on differentiated technological prowess," Choi Yoon-ho, CEO of Samsung SDI said.
