Samsung chairman visits Philippine plant

SEOUL, October 07 (AJP) - Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited the Samsung Electro-Mechanics production facility in Calamba, Philippines, on Sunday. The visit focused on reviewing the Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC) business strategy and encouraging employees. Lee emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities in expanding markets such as AI, robotics, and electric vehicles.

The Calamba plant, established in 1997, has been producing IT-focused MLCCs and inductors since 2000. With the rapid growth of electric and autonomous vehicle markets, the facility is considering additional production of high-performance automotive MLCCs. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is concentrating on developing the automotive MLCC business as a future growth driver, with industry projections suggesting the MLCC market could more than double from 4 trillion won in 2023 to 9.5 trillion won by 2028.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been expanding its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in the Philippines. In 2022, the company received the "Best Company Award" from the Philippine government, a prestigious recognition given to companies registered with the Philippine Board of Investments. The company's CSR efforts include initiatives for sustainable development and building trust within the local community.
