SEOUL, October 17 (AJP) - Thailand's Immigration Bureau announced disciplinary action against two officers who allowed a detained Korean drug suspect to conduct live broadcasts from a police transport vehicle and detention cell. The incident, which sparked controversy and raised questions about security protocols in Thai detention facilities, occurred on Oct. 3, with the bureau's announcement following on Wednesday.

The Korean man in his 40s, wanted in his home country for drug trafficking, was arrested in Chonburi province and transported to Bangkok. During his detention, he streamed multiple live videos on YouTube, showcasing the inside of the holding cell, interacting with viewers, and even engaging in arm wrestling with other detainees.

The suspect, who had overstayed his visa by 373 days, claimed he had bribed officers to allow his phone use. Despite receiving a suspended sentence and a 3,000 baht fine from the Pattaya court, he was transferred to the Bangkok Immigration Detention Center pending deportation to Korea.

Thailand's Immigration Bureau emphasized that all detainees should be closely monitored regardless of court decisions. The two officers responsible have been suspended pending a full investigation by a disciplinary committee.
