The National Intelligence Service (NIS) here told a National Assembly hearing, "We are closely monitoring North Korea's troop deployment in Russia including the possibility of some military personnel, including high-ranking generals, moving to the frontlines along the border with Ukraine."
The NIS also speculated that North Korean soldiers dispatched to Russia are apparently struggling to learn about approximately 100 Russian military jargons, which could hinder communication with Russian forces.
It also assumed that Russia's high-ranking officials involved in the deployment were on board an aircraft last week that is believed to have transported North Korean officers to the border areas of Ukraine.
Amid the deepening military ties between the two close allies, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui departed for Russia early this week, suggesting that further discussions about additional troop deployments and other forms of assistance are expected.
