US, Saudi officials discuss AI collaboration and Middle East stability

SEOUL, October 31 (AJP) - A senior U.S. diplomat met with top Saudi officials in Washington on Wednesday to discuss advancing cooperation in artificial intelligence and reducing Middle East tensions, according to the State Department.

Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell engaged in talks with Saudi Arabia's National Security Advisor Musaid al-Aiban and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah al-Swaha. According to State Department Spokesman Matt Miller, the discussions focused on expanding collaboration in AI and broader fields of science and technology.

Campbell reiterated the U.S.' commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia in developing advanced tech ecosystems and responsibly harnessing AI's potential in a secure and trustworthy manner. The dialogue also included efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and foster "lasting peace and security" across the Middle East.

The meeting coincided with the Pentagon's "Responsible AI in Defense Forum," which serves as a space for discussing AI-related challenges and international military cooperation.
