"We respect the choice of the American people and congratulate Mr. Trump on being elected president of the United States," the ministry said.
In response to questions about the election's potential impact on U.S.-China relations, the ministry's spokesperson Mao Ning said China will continue managing its relationship with the U.S. based on principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.
Earlier, Trump addressed supporters at the West Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida, where he celebrated his win. Trump pledged "to help our country heal" and committed to addressing issues at the U.S.-Mexico border.
"This is a political victory our country has never seen before," Trump said, expressing gratitude to the American people "for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president."
Reports showed Trump's electoral college tally between 266 and 267 after wins in North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. Both Georgia and Pennsylvania were flipped back to Trump after then-Democratic candidate Joe Biden won them four years ago.
