The Koreasat-6A satellite, KT SAT's first launch in seven years, lifted off aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket at 12:22 p.m. (U.S. time) Monday from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The geostationary satellite deployed about 35 minutes after lift-off, according to the company affiliated with telecom operator KT Corp.
This satellite will begin providing fixed and broadcasting satellite services in the first quarter of 2025, replacing the Koreasat 6 satellite launched in 2010.
"KT SAT is the only satellite communications operator in South Korea that owns geostationary orbit communication satellites," a company official noted, adding that their global service network now includes five Koreasat satellites.
The company's proprietary satellite control system, KOSMOS, enables big data analysis for preventive maintenance and rapid response to potential issues, ensuring stable data and broadcasting services for military, government, and broadcasting clients.
CEO Seo Young-soo stated that the launch has "expanded our competitiveness in geostationary orbit services." He pledged to lead the domestic satellite industry by integrating low-orbit satellite capabilities.
