Chonburi Governor Thawatchai Srithong said tourism revenue in the province reached 27 billion baht ($770 million) between July and October, a 4 percent increase from the same period last year, crediting the baby pygmy hippopotamus born in June. "Chonburi has become a major contributor to Thai tourism alongside Bangkok and Phuket," he said.
The zoo has signed licensing agreements with over 70 brands, including Thai Airways, generating more than 150 million baht ($4.3 million) in copyright revenue. Foreign visitors from South Korea, China, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, Singapore, and Taiwan have increased by 10%, contributing to the regional economic boost that extends to nearby tourist destinations like Pattaya and Bang Saen.
