SEOUL, December 31 (AJP) - Global DRAM price declines will be limited to 0-5 percent next quarter when including high-bandwidth memory (HBM) products, market researcher TrendForce reported, citing seasonal weakness and cautious buying strategies ahead of the new U.S. administration.
Server DDR5 DRAM prices are projected to fall 3-8 percent in the first quarter of 2025 reversing from a 3-8 percent increase in the fourth quarter. Server DDR4 prices are expected to see an even steeper decline of 10-15 percent, compared to an 8-13 percent drop in the fourth quarter of this year.
"The DRAM market will face downward pricing pressure early next year due to seasonal weakness and slowing consumer demand in products like smartphones," TrendForce said, adding that "early inventory buildup by laptop manufacturers preparing for potential import tariffs under the Trump administration has further exacerbated the price decline."
Overall DRAM prices, excluding HBM products, are forecast to drop 8-13 percent in the first quarter widening from a 3-8 percent decline in the fourth quarter of 2024. PC, mobile, and consumer DRAM segments are expected to continue their downward trend from the previous quarter.
