LAS VEGAS, January 6 (AJP) - Samsung Electronics revealed an ambitious blueprint for the future of smart homes, showcasing its commitment to simplifying daily life through advanced artificial intelligence and seamlessly connected devices.
During a high-profile press conference, Han Jong-hee, Samsung’s vice chairman and head of the Device eXperience (DX) division, introduced the company’s “Home AI” vision. The initiative leverages AI technology to learn household routines and preferences, delivering tailored solutions that enhance convenience, efficiency, and personalization.
“This year at CES, we are reinforcing our commitment to delivering personalized experiences through our widespread implementation of AI,” Mr. Han told an audience of over 1,300 attendees. “We will continue this journey of AI leadership in the home and beyond - not just for the next decade, but for the next century.”
Samsung’s new sensing technology takes home automation to the next level by analyzing household movements and ambient sounds, enabling devices to proactively assist users. The system synthesizes data into actionable insights, providing real-time updates and alerts about household needs.
The company also announced a significant upgrade to its AI voice assistant, Bixby, which will now recognize individual family members’ voices. Samsung plans to integrate its user interface, One UI, across mobile devices, TVs, and home appliances, creating a unified and intuitive experience. Notably, Samsung pledged up to seven years of software updates to ensure continuous improvement of its AI-driven home ecosystem.
Addressing concerns about privacy and security, Samsung introduced enhanced safeguards through its Samsung Knox Matrix platform. This blockchain-based solution protects connected devices from potential security threats, setting a new standard for smart home security.
Samsung’s SmartThings platform also featured notable updates, including Calm Onboarding, which simplifies the setup of newly purchased devices by automatically connecting them to the home network. The platform’s Quick Remote function allows users to control nearby Samsung devices with ease, streamlining the management of smart home systems.
Samsung’s vision for AI connectivity extends beyond the household, reaching into the automotive and maritime sectors.
Through a collaboration with Hyundai, SmartThings technology allows users to monitor and control home appliances directly from their car’s infotainment system. Features like SmartThings Find enable users to locate parked vehicles effortlessly in crowded lots.
Samsung is also partnering with Samsung Heavy Industries to integrate SmartThings into autonomous ships. This collaboration enables remote monitoring and control of shipboard devices, exemplifying Samsung’s push to bring its AI capabilities to a broader range of industries.
