SEOUL, February 15 (AJP) -- The Chinese Embassy in South Korea expressed "concern and regret" on Saturday over an attempted break-in by a supporter of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was dressed as the Marvel character "Captain America."
The incident occurred on Friday evening when a man in his 40s, identified only by his surname Ahn, tried to enter the embassy in Seoul's Myeongdong district as its doors were briefly opened. He was immediately arrested by police for attempted trespassing.
"We have communicated our concern and regret to the South Korean government," the Chinese Embassy said, adding that they would await the results of the ongoing police investigation.
According to police, the suspect had declared his intention to "terrorize" the Chinese Embassy before the attempt. He later claimed on social media that his action was meant to deliver an anti-China message in Korea.
Police officials said they are continuing their investigation without detaining the suspect.
The same individual, wearing the same Captain America costume, had previously caused a disturbance at the National Human Rights Commission on Monday, where he attempted to block access to elevators during a meeting discussing President Yoon's impeachment proceedings.
