SEOUL -- LIG Nex1, a defense contractor in South Korea, will display an unmanned coastguard patrol boat "Haegum-3" at a global exhibition in Abu Dhabi designed to showcase drones, robots, and other unmanned solutions. The patrol boat is equipped with advanced surveillance equipment, a remote shooting control system, and a guided rocket launcher.

Haegum-3 unmanned boat features high seaworthiness, artificial intelligence-based autonomous operation technology, and enhanced combat capabilities that would enable a 24-hour vigilance mission even in bad weather. The demonstration of Haegum-3 was successfully completed in June 2021.

LIG Nex1 said Haegum-3 will be presented during a three-day exhibition at UMEX 2024. Various companies from about 35 countries are set to participate in the event starting on January 23. Along with Haegum-3, the South Korean company will also display a self-navigating solution that searches for naval mines and a vertical take-off and landing drone designed for strike and reconnaissance missions.

"New solutions, including collaborative systems of manned-unmanned collaborative combat systems, are rapidly transforming the landscape of research and development for modern battlefield and defense," LIG Nex1 CEO Shin Ik-hyun said in a statement. "We hope this exhibition will help us secure a leading position in the global market, particularly in future-oriented fields."

LIG Nex1 produces a wide range of advanced precision electronic systems such as missiles, torpedoes, radars, tactical communication systems, and naval combat systems. The company has been involved in a state-funded project to develop, demonstrate, and commercialize an AI-based smart ship platform and an autonomous coastguard patrol boat.
