Modi urges peaceful resolution to Ukraine conflict in call with Putin

SEOUL, August 28 (AJP) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war in Ukraine during a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Modi said Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter) that during his call with President Putin, he "reiterated India's firm commitment to support an early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict."

He also added that the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen the partnership between India and Russia.

India's Ministry of External Affairs explained that Modi shared his understanding, gained during his recent visit to Ukraine on Friday, with Putin. Modi also emphasized the importance of sincere and substantive engagement among all stakeholders and the significance of dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace.

Prior to this, Prime Minister Modi spoke with U.S. President Joe Biden over the phone on Monday. During this call, Biden expressed his appreciation for the Indian leader's visit to Ukraine.
