SEOUL, June 30 (AJP) -The U.S. Embassy in South Korea marked the 250th anniversary of American independence with glitz, scale, style and K-pop at Seoul's Grand Hyatt Hotel.

U.S. Charge d’Affaires ad interim James Heller spoke of the “ironclad” relationship between the United States and South Korea, highlighting the alliance’s role as a foundation for security, prosperity and shared democratic values.

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun congratulated the United States on the milestone, praising Washington’s enduring stewardship of the ideals set out by the country’s founders — freedom, democracy and the rule of law.

The reception drew hundreds of guests, including diplomats, government officials, business leaders and cultural figures. The evening blended the formality of a diplomatic gathering with the energy of a Korean pop concert, with performances by Jay Park and Psy adding star power to the celebration.

Hundreds of guests filled the ballroom as American and Korean flags stood side by side, underscoring a relationship that has grown from a military alliance into a broader partnership spanning trade, technology, culture and people-to-people ties.

The celebration came as the two allies continue to navigate a fast-changing regional order, from North Korea’s security threats to the Gulf conflict and supply-chain realignment.

But for one evening, the message was festive and clear: the alliance remains one of Washington’s most important partnerships in Asia, and one increasingly expressed not only through diplomacy and defense, but also through culture.
