SEOUL, July 10 (AJP) - Torrential monsoon rains that battered South Korea's central region and other parts of the country over the last two days left one person missing and damaged more than 4,000 facilities, government authorities said on Friday.

Fire officials and other emergency workers have been searching for a man in his 70s who was swept away by floodwaters while crossing a stream in Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province the previous day.

Landslides were also reported in several areas including Okcheon in North Chungcheong Province and Yeongwol in Gangwon Province.

About 700 people from more than 500 households across 25 cities and counties were forced to evacuate to temporary shelters.

Light showers or drizzle are expected across the Seoul metropolitan area and other inland regions before tapering off later in the day, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration. But hot and humid conditions are forecast to return over the weekend.
