The recall covers 54,644 Hyundai Genesis sedans manufactured in 2015 and 2016 and 39,978 Genesis G80 sedans produced between 2017 and 2020.
The front seats may overheat if an adjustment switch gets stuck, potentially causing a fire while the vehicle is being driven or parked.
The NHTSA advised owners of affected vehicles to park outdoors, away from other vehicles and structures, until repairs are completed.
Hyundai estimates that the defect affects only about 1 percent of the recalled vehicles. Owners will be able to have their vehicles repaired at Hyundai dealers or Genesis retailers once a fix becomes available. Notification letters are expected to be mailed to affected owners on Dec. 7.
