SEOUL -- South Korean parents will be alerted in real-time when their children surf the internet to gain access to harmful contents such as pornography websites and explicit video contents.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission said Friday that it would release a new version of "Green I-net", the state watchdog's internet filtering software, later this year. The software provides various options for monitoring a PC's internet logs and blocking access to harmful websites.
The updated software can send alarms to the mobile phones of parents in real-time whenever children try to browse harmful information. Currently, similar software is available through paid security services.
The watchdog's 2017 survey showed that out of 242 children aged between 10 and 19, 6 browsed harmful contents every month. In a separate survey, 376 of 1,624 students were found to have accessed harmful contents via mobile devices every month.
