K-pop band FT ISLAND member Lee Hong-ki discloses enlistment date through social media

SEOUL -- Lee Hong-ki, a member of K-pop band FT ISLAND, has confirmed his enlistment at the end of this month. He would join a front-line boot camp for basic training.

"Oh, and yeah. Yes. I am going to the 21st Infantry Division!!!!!! Hahahaha," the 29-year-old said in an Instagram post uploaded on Monday after several media outlets reported that he would start his military service on September 30.

Lee will receive basic military training at the 21st Infantry Division's front-line boot camp in Yanggu County some 115 kilometers (71 miles) northeast of Seoul.

The boot camp is only about 10 kilometers south from the demilitarized zone (DMZ), a four-kilometer-wide strip of land that has divided the Korean peninsula since an armistice accord ended the Korean War in 1953.
