LG releases hassle-free smart washing machine-dryer duo

SEOUL -- Doing laundry using a washing machine and dryer may seem like an easy task but it is actually a delicate chore that requires careful planning. The result of unplanned washing can end up in horrific results such as shrunken sweaters and jeans that have transferred dye to other apparel.

As a solution, LG Electronics released a duo of artificial intelligence (AI)-based "Trom" washing machine and dryer to ease the laundry-related burden. The smart device automatically detects the weight of laundry and its garment to choose a perfect washing course.

LG said that its smart laundry duo reduces damage done to the garment by up to 10 percent compared to conventional washing machines. The dryer is wirelessly connected to the washing machine to manage laundry, using the right amount of heat and tumbling movements.

Consumers will be provided with a total management service using a smartphone app. The app will manage everything from the installment of the washing machine and its operation. LG said the Trom duo will hit the U.S. market later this year.
