SEOUL -- Following its successful launch of rollable displays that received positive feedback from critics, LG Display, a major flat panel maker in South Korea, will introduce new solutions by utilizing thin and bendable organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) at a trade fair in Las Vegas, to create new markets and show innovative form factors.
LG Display, affiliated with South Korea's LG Group, has developed bendable, foldable and rollable OLED panels. They are involved in a project to develop stretchable displays which are seen as the final phase of flexible display technologies. The company has tried to incorporate OLED into various fields such as furniture, construction, interior design, shopping, and entertainment.
Based on OLED's infinite scalability, LG Display said in a statement on December 23 that new solutions such as "Virtual Ride" and "Media Chair" would be unveiled at CES 2022 in January to provide differentiated customer experiences through convergence with heterogeneous industries.
Virtual Ride connects three 55-inch OLED panels vertically from floor to ceiling in a reversed L shape, combined with exercise equipment. The entire screen is curved to suit the viewing angle so that users can experience vividness as if they are actually walking outside. As the radius of curvature is the lowest among large existing panels, the curved surface can be implemented according to the types of various products.
