SEOUL -- A new golf ball made by applying the powder of attometal, a new material developed by a subsidiary of South Korea's Kolon Group, has recorded the world's longest distance.

In a ceremony in Seoul on August 14, the golf ball brand-named "Attomax" has officially received the world's longest distance title from the World Record Committee (WRC), a world record certification body based in the United States.

In a certification test using a WRC-certified robot swing machine, Attomax flew up to 18 meters more than 13 types of golf balls from 10 other brands, Kolon Industries, a chemical and textile manufacturing company, said, adding that the development of its new golf ball began with the idea of honorary group chairman Lee Woong-yeul.

Attometal powder with high elasticity and repulsive force was evenly mixed with the mantle layer surrounding the center of the new golf ball. Attometal, an amorphous alloy developed by Kolon's new material affiliate, Attometal Tech Korea, dramatically improves elasticity, hardness, corrosion resistance, and abrasion resistance by making the atomic structure of metals irregular.

"I hope we will continue our world record by constantly researching and developing and challenging so that we can continue to break our record," Lee was quoted as saying.
