SEOUL, May 31 (AJU PRESS) - Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul met with his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son in Seoul on Friday to discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.
The meeting marked the first formal ministerial-level discussions between the two countries, following an agreement reached during President Yoon Suk Yeol's state visit to the Southeast Asian country in June last year. Their talks took place six months after the two countries agreed to elevate the bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in December 2022.
In his opening remarks, Cho expressed satisfaction with the ongoing progress in bilateral ties. "I am pleased that we are deepening mutually beneficial, practical, and strategic cooperation in all fields in line with our upgraded relationship," Cho said.
Son also expressed his expectations for positive progress being made. "Mutual trust continues to strengthen, and practical cooperation is steadily deepening and expanding across various fields," Son said.
Their talks focused on enhancing cooperation in areas such as diplomacy and security, trade and investment, and energy, resources, and supply chains. The two ministers also discussed action plans to foster the partnership further.
It was Son's first official trip to Korea since the enhancement of the bilateral relationship, underlining the importance of the evolving partnership between the two countries. He arrived in Seoul the previous day to attend the launch event of a non-profit association of Vietnamese businesses in Korea which aims to promote economic cooperation between the two countries.
