SEOUL, July 29 (AJU PRESS) - Korean defense company LIG Nex1 has completed the acquisition of a 60 percent stake in Ghost Robotics, a U.S.-based quadruped robot specialist, for about 332 billion won ($240 million). The deal, finalized on Friday after receiving approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), marks LIG Nex1's strategic entry into the global robotics market.

Ghost Robotics, founded in 2015 and headquartered in Philadelphia, is known for its advanced four-legged robots, particularly the Vision 60 model, equipped with long-lasting batteries. The company's products have been exported to various countries, including the United States, United Kingdom and Japan.

LIG Nex1 plans to establish a cooperation center in Washington D.C. this year to facilitate its expansion into domestic and international robotics markets. The acquisition is expected to drive innovation in various fields, including unmanned combat systems, search and rescue operations, fire monitoring and suppression, and assistance to people with disabilities.

"LIG Nex1 and Ghost Robotics share the commonality of being R&D-centric companies with top-level research personnel and infrastructure," Shin Ik-hyun, CEO of LIG Nex1, said. "By combining the cutting-edge technologies of both companies, we will create synergies across defense and civilian sectors and establish unique growth opportunities in the global market."
