SEOUL, Sept. 4 (AJP) - Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE, marked its 20th anniversary of flying to India by landing its iconic Airbus A380 in Mumbai last week. This event kicks off the airline's celebrations, with the A380 set to operate on the Mumbai-Abu Dhabi route for a limited period. There will be three weekly flights until Dec. 31, as announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The use of the A380 on this route commemorates two decades since Etihad's inaugural flight to Mumbai. Arik De, Etihad's Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, expressed enthusiasm about featuring the A380 on the Mumbai route as part of the anniversary celebrations. Typically used for long-haul flights, the A380 will be available on this route three times a week for four months to honor this milestone.

Etihad has been gradually reintroducing its fleet of ten A380s, which had been grounded in 2020 due to the pandemic. The reintroduction began with the London route last year. The A380 offers luxurious amenities, including Etihad's renowned Residence — a three-room suite — as well as Business and Economy class options.

Earlier in 2024, Etihad resumed A380 services to New York and Boston in the United States. In Europe, the airline will restart A380 flights to Paris on Nov. 1. Additionally, Etihad plans to begin A380 flights to Singapore from Feb. 1, 2025.

The airline is also expanding its presence in Asia by increasing flights to Thailand from 35 to 41 per week, starting Oct. 27. The updated schedule will include 21 flights to Bangkok and 20 to Phuket.
