Located at an altitude of about 5,000 meters, the Khunjerab Pass is an essential trade route between China and Pakistan and serves as a gateway to South Asia and Europe.
In the past, the pass operated only from April to November, closing during the winter months due to severe weather and high-altitude conditions. The extended operating schedule aims to strengthen trade, economic ties, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Since the resumption of passenger customs clearance on April this year, the Khunjerab Pass has seen over 50,000 inbound and outbound travelers.
By October, the port had processed more than 11,000 vehicles, with cargo imports and exports totaling 40,900 tonnes — a year-on-year increase of 42.6 percent and 72.7 percent, respectively, according to data from Khunjerab Customs.
