SEOUL, August 08 (AJU PRESS) - India's prominent female wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, saw her hopes of contending in the final match at the Paris Olympics dashed due to her failure to make weight.

Phogat, who had become the first Indian female wrestler to reach an Olympic final, was scheduled to compete in the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling final on Wednesday. However, she was disqualified for being only 150 grams over the weight limit.

Under United World Wrestling rules, she will be ranked at the bottom and will not receive a medal.

Phogat had advanced to the final after a convincing 5-0 victory over Cuba's Yusneilys Guzmán in the semifinals. Originally competing in the 53 kg category, Phogat moved to the 50 kg class. According to the regulations, she needed to maintain a weight under 50 kg throughout the Olympic period. Although she passed the weigh-in on Tuesday, she could not meet the requirement on the day of the final, leading to her disqualification.
