CJ CGV, the largest multiplex cinema chain in South Korea, said Thursday it plans to open 19 new theaters in China this year with the aim of doubling its sales there to 170 billion won.
Since the opening of its first theater in China in 2006, CJ CGV has established 26 more branches in 16 cities around the country.
CJ CGV posted a revenue of 80 billion won in China last year.
CJ CGV, with a 2.1 percent share, ranked 14th in the Chinese movie market in 2013, compared with a 0.9 percent share recorded four years earlier.
The Chinese film industry, called "Chollywood," grew double in 2012 to become the world’s second largest movie market after the United States.
CJ CGV also has branches in the United States.
