Lee Keun-ho lowest paid footballer in the world

South Korea’s forward Lee Keun-ho, who scored a goal during a Group H opener against Russia on Tuesday (local time), is one of the lowest paid players among footballers participating in the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

Lee, now an Army sergeant of South Korea’s Sangju Sangmu Football Club, receives monthly salaries of only 149,000 won (about US$145), the club says. In South Korea, all able-bodied Korean men aged 19 or older are obliged to serve in the military for two years.

Lee, the 2012 AFC Player of Year, made his World Cup debut in Tuesday's match against Russia.

Of 736 players participating in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Lionel Messi of Argentina is the most valuable fooballer, according to www.transfermarkt.de, a German-based website that has footballing information, early this month.

Messi’s market value was estimated at 105.6 million pounds (approximately 181.2 billion won).

Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal came in second with a market value amounting to 88 million pounds.
