SEOUL -- Brazilian aircraft company Embraer has launched a student incubation program in North Gyeongsang Province, aiming to nurture aspiring aircraft engineers and aviation specialists.
The world's third-largest commercial aircraft maker became South Korea's crucial partner in December 2023 when South Korea's defense ministry selected Embraer's C-390, a large-sized plane, as the country's next-generation military cargo flyer. C-390's maximum distributed payload is 23 metric tons (50,706 pounds) and can fly at a maximum speed of 850 kilometers (528 miles) per hour.
The five-day program, which began in Kyungwoon University Campus located in the southern industrial city of Gumi on March 11, provides lectures to 300 university students from North Gyeongsang Province on various aviation-related topics such as maintenance, repair, and digital aerial services. Professors and aviation experts from Embraer are leading the sessions.
This program is part of a broader collaboration between Embraer and the North Gyeongsang Provincial Government, established through a previous business agreement. Its objective is to develop talent in the local aviation industry and facilitate job opportunities in aviation companies. Additionally, outstanding students will have the opportunity to undertake on-site learning at Embraer's headquarters in Brazil and internships at its Singapore branch.
"This incubation program confirms the win-win bond between Embraer and Gyeongsangbuk-do and the strengthened cooperation among Brazilian and South Korean governments and businesses," said the Brazilian Ambassador to South Korea. She expressed optimism that the incubation project would enhance the partnership between Embraer and North Gyeongsang Province.
North Gyeongsang Province plans to upgrade this program to expand collaboration with other aerospace companies and global logistics firms, intending to support students in launching successful careers in the aviation industry.
