In the elections, the ruling People Power Party secured only 108 seats in the 300-member National Assembly, compared to the opposition Democratic Party's 175.
The meeting took place 720 days since Yoon took office in May 2022. During the talks held at the presidential office on Monday, Lee encouraged Yoon to cooperate on changing the direction of national policy and addressing key issues.
"I think the will of the people expressed in the parliamentary elections is a solemn order to correct misguided state affairs," Lee said. "I believe citizens have commanded us to revive livelihoods and the economy, establish democracy, and preserve peace and security through the elections."
He further claimed that Koreans are facing multiple challenges, including high prices, high interest rates, and high exchange rates. "When the private economy struggles, government intervention is a fundamental practice," Lee stressed.
The opposition leader specifically urged for funds to support the livelihood recovery of small business operators, self-employed individuals, and residents in suburban and rural areas.
After the elections, Yoon has apologized for his failure to uphold the will of the people. On April 16, Yoon said he would humbly accept the public sentiment and strive to improve communication with the public.
